This test measures the enzymes transglutaminase IgA and igG to detect coeliac disease. High levels of this enzyme and subsequent antibodies can indicate coeliac disease or gluten insensitivity.
The immune response in coeliac disease involves the production of antibodies which attack IgA and igG enzymes. IgA and igG enzymes are produced in the small intestine, which is where a reaction to gluten is formed and coeliac disease manifests. Therefore, this test measures these two key enzymes for an accurate indication of coeliac prevalence.Â
Where gluten insensitivity is characterised by adverse reactions to gluten consumption, coeliac disease involves a hypersensitive small intestine and severe digestive difficulties.
