The Breath Test profiles gastrointestinal health by detecting small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). This condition is characterised by symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhoea, irregularity and abdominal pain, and can inhibit nutrient absorption.
Where a healthy small intestine contains minimal bacteria, SIBO disrupts the intestine lining and hinders nutrient absorption with excessive bacteria.
This test can detect excessive bacteria and other signs of SIBO, to highlight the need for intervention and treatment. While SIBO can present as the clinical symptoms noted above, it can also manifest silently. Therefore, the Breath Test may be applicable to those experiencing gastrointestinal distress, maldigestion or chronic constipation.
TEST TYPE: Breath test
You will receive a package which will include all instructions, pathology form, details of sample collection locations.
Once your samples are received by the lab they will be assessed. The turnaround time for results is 7 – 10 business days but please be aware laboratory times may vary and you may experience a delay in results.
Once your confidential results have been sent to the medical team for review, they will call you to discuss your results and appropriate treatment options moving forward.
Finally, a copy of your results will be sent through to you for your reference.
