This profile measures copper, ceruloplasmin and zinc levels to determine the body’s immune status. This can be tested through the nutritional intake and absorption of the minerals zinc and copper.
Zinc is required for the activity of over 300 enzymes and contributes to major metabolic pathways, making it crucial to healthy immune function. Zinc has an inverse relationship with copper, meaning that an ideal balance leaves one mineral’s levels high while the other’s levels are low. Although copper is needed for blood vessel growth and wound healing, above average levels can be toxic.Â
Ceruloplasmin is an enzyme which contains copper, and contributes to the body’s iron metabolism. Measuring this enzyme can offer a more accurate measurement of the body’s copper levels.
